A WORKINGTON brewery is hoping to expand to host social events.

Graeme Mitchell has applied for planning permission from Allerdale council to transform the Tractor Shed brewery at Calva Brow into a venue for functions.

He wants to expand into a disused shed next to the brewery building, to be used as a warehouse and storage.

The brewery could then be used to host events like wedding receptions for about 120 people, subject to gaining the necessary planning permission and an amendment to the existing premises licence.

A section of the roof would be raised to allow an upper ground floor with access from the existing brewery.

An extra 26 car parking spaces would also be created at the rear of the brewery building.

The development could create one full-time equivalent job and several occasional jobs during events.

Mr Mitchell started Mitchell Krause Brewing in 2009. In 2012, it was given permission to convert a disused agricultural building into the microbrewery.

Mr Mitchell began to offer brewery tours and sell products in an onsite shop.

In January 2015, it changed its name to Tractor Shed Brewing.

Mr Mitchell said: "Since becoming Tractor Shed Brewing, the business has seen growth in its own branded beers and the beers it brews to contract for other companies.

"The number of brewery tours has also increased and , out of this closer community engagement, a clear demand has developed to use the brewery as a venue to hire for social events such as wedding receptions and special celebrations."

People can view and comment on the plans until April 11.
