A Windermere couple have won an award for their Lake District holidays.

The couple, Susan and Derek Dickson, owners of Park Cliffe holiday park, have been named regional winners of the Federal Small Businesses Awards 2024, leading the North West in the "sustainability" category.

The win recognises their commitment to their eco-friendly family business and propels the couple into the national finals of the FSB awards which will take place on May 9th at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens.

The Dicksons were 'delighted and surprised' to join the cream of the North West's businesses for the prestigious accolade. According to the FSB judges, their dedication to sustainability has truly shone through.

Speaking on their success, Susan Dickson, who has run Park Cliffe with her husband Derek for the past 15 years, said: “We have always taken our responsibility to the natural world very seriously.

"We’ve always regarded living and working in this beautiful landscape as a real privilege, and feel we need to do everything we can to protect its fragility.”

Park Cliffe, which spans 25 acres of countryside near the shores of Windermere, offers holiday homes for rent or purchase, glamping facilities, as well as camping and touring pitches.

Through a myriad of environment-focused initiatives like banning single-use plastics and nurturing a nectar-rich wildflower scheme for bees and butterflies, the park demonstrates the couple's commitment to preserving their natural surroundings.

One such initiative is the launch of a solar array project last year, which supplements the park's energy supply with renewable energy. The project, worth £200,000, comprises more than 200 high-efficiency solar panels and is expected to prevent 21 tonnes of carbon from entering the atmosphere annually.

Mrs Dickson gave credit to the support they've received from both regular guests and the Park Cliffe team, adding: “Our park tends to attract guests and holiday home buyers who share our love of the natural world, and the encouragement they provide has always been fantastic.

"For that reason, we would like to give credit to them and to our amazing park team for helping us achieve this award, and to spur us on to greater things!”

This recent accolade comes hot on the heels of a double win for the couple at the In-Cumbria Business Awards in January, where they topped the Green/Ethical Business of the Year and Best Family Business categories. Further information about Park Cliffe is available at the Park Cliffe website.
